THE OPPORTUNITY, IN CONTEXT
Explore a device-specific CarPlay setup service
The business model
For some car owners, adding phone projection to an existing head unit is more appealing than replacing it. A setup service would have to center on a tested vehicle and software version, with compatibility and failed-installation limits made clear.
What has been observed
DiPlay documents an independent, BYD-focused receiver in public preview. Other brands are unsupported, and a minimum Android version is not proof that a particular head unit works. The project is not Apple-certified, and its experimental authentication approach leaves future compatibility unresolved.
Entry conditions and costs
Costs depend on the exact hardware, firmware, connection method and troubleshooting time. Check the vehicle-specific warranty position and agree what happens if installation fails. Avoid promising universal compatibility or permanent support.
The key question
Would owners pay for setup with these compatibility and preview-stage limits?
Common questions
Will it work on any Android head unit?
No. Compatibility needs checking against the exact head unit, firmware and release.
Where is the app installed?
On the Android head unit, not the iPhone. Optional vehicle integrations are separate.
A CLOSER LOOK
One vehicle, one verified setup
Some car owners want phone projection on the head unit they already have. A setup service could serve tested BYD configurations, with preview-stage limits clearly disclosed.
